Deuxième journée du festival Rock en Seine 2015. On a découvert Forever Pavot, une des dernières signatures du label Born Bad Records, Mini Mansions, le projet du bassiste des Queens of the Stone Age, Glass Animals et sa pop mystérieuse, Etienne Daho plus rock que jamais, Bianca Casady & the C.I.A, la sœur CocoRosie qui s’élance en solo, les têtes brûlées de The Libertines et la sensation scénique du moment : Shamir.

Forever Pavot

Habitués à des guitares hurlantes sortant de chez Born Bad Records, Forever Pavot est la surprise psyché de ce label français. De ses longs cheveux, Emile Sornin caresse les notes de son clavier, tandis que son bassiste ondule au son de percussions électroniques. Le public, fuyant le soleil, s’offre une sieste jazzy aux touches orientales sur des chœurs noyés de réverbération.

Une petite mélodie s’échappe d’une étonnante flute traversière, bientôt poursuivie par une chevauchée Morriconienne, qui vire en final épique à la Pink Floyd. Les mouvements se suivent mais ne se ressemblent pas, on renonce à tenter de suivre : on se contente de se laisser prendre par chaque nouvel élément. Sur scène en tous cas, les musiciens n’ont pas l’air d’être inquiétés par la pression liée à ce concert et s’éclate à jouer ensemble. Bonne ambiance, donc.

Mini Mansions

Sur scène, chaque musicien se présente avec son style : Tyler Parkford sur la gauche, en tenue de marionnettiste derrière ses claviers, Michael Shuman (le bassiste des Queens of the Stone Age) éclatant de blanc trône au milieu à la batterie, et Zach Dawes à la basse fait le malin dans son costume à fleurs roses. On se laisse entraîner par ‘Death is a Girl’, puis le refrain énergique de ‘Monk’ vient prendre le pas sur le doux couplet, avant de brusquement virer au baroque.

Ca groove, ça miaule sensuellement, et bientôt le public tente de reprendre les chœurs à la Beach Boys. Debout derrière ses fûts, le batteur semble maîtriser le set, tandis que le claviériste au look impeccable pousse d’étonnants cris et que le bassiste se la pète à jouer avec les dents sur un riff plus heavy. Et une petite reprise de Blondie finit de conquérir la foule ! On ne s’étonne donc pas que Alex Turner ait proposé de participer à leur dernier album The Great Pretender et que Brian Wilson en personne ait accepté de poser sa voix sur le titre ‘Any Emotion’.

Glass Animals

Les Anglais de Glass Animals arrivent sur la scène Pression Live pour emmener le public dans un ‘Black Mambo’ endiablé. Leur mélange de sons des plus étonnants donne à leur rock un côté mystérieux. De petits clapotis ouvrent ‘Hazey’, mais le chanteur, très impliqué, se met bientôt à bousculer ce morceau des plus sensuels, en poussant des cris un peu flippants. « J’ai toujours pensé que les Français étaient les meilleurs danseurs », lance-t-il pour encourager la foule avant le très ambiguë ‘Toes’ qui part bien vite à la dérive. Sur scène, Dave Bayley incarne un personnage bien allumé, et réussit à emmener le public dans son monde inquiétant mais étrangement attirant.

Etienne Daho

En fait, on l’attendait vraiment. Etienne Daho avait simplement sorti un album live, Diskönoir, à la fin 2014 donc on était en droit d’espérer un concert-compilation. Et c’est le cas: les tubes gravés dans le marbre du Top50 déferlent sur la scène de la Cascade, à la grande joie des milliers de fans, des curieux et des hipsters en Stan Smith. Bref, Daho sait rassembler. De ‘Saudade‘ à ‘Week-end à Rome‘, du ‘Grand sommeil‘ à ‘Tombé pour la France‘, tous y passent! On se surprend à reprendre ces titres qu’on a forcément tous entendus depuis 25 ans. Mais surtout, avec deux guitares saturées, une batterie binaire très en avant, une voix mixée en retrait, on est agréablement surpris par le côté rock du groupe ! Il y a même eu un slam sur ‘Comme un Boomerang‘ (qui s’est illustré dans la fosse de Kasabian la veille).

Derrière ses lunettes noires et ses déhanchés inimitables, il y a un artiste qui a toujours su s’entourer et s’adapter. Avant le final, Etienne Daho signale, visiblement très ému, que c’est la dernière date de sa tournée. Arrive alors le mythique ‘Epaule Tattoo‘, joué à toute blinde avec basse disco rebondissante et riffs de Telecaster saturés. Ca claque. La foule reprend le refrain a capella, juste avant un ‘Bleu comme Toi‘ en conclusion d’un concert qui n’était pas une erreur de casting.

Bianca Casady & the C.I.A

Alors que les sœurs CocoRosie s’apprêtent à sortir un nouvel album, Heartache City, Bianca Casadyse lance étonnamment dans un projet solo. Sur scène, une ambiance cabaret règne, la chanteuse, en long trench fait les cent pas, pendant qu’une silhouette s’évente langoureusement. Un homme torse nu commence à poser sur un tabouret, puis saute à terre pour une chorégraphie très contemporaine pendant que le piano désaccordé nous emmène dans les bas-fonds de Brooklyn. On s’attend toujours à quelque chose de spécial de la part des sœurs CocoRosie, mais jamais on aurait imaginé un spectacle si conceptuel dans un festival comme Rock en Seine. Inattendu.

The Libertines

Peter Doherty et Carl Barât débarquent – à l’heure – bras dessus bras dessous sur la Grande Scène. Comme d’habitude, leur intro est très brouillon, on ne comprend rien à ce qu’ils racontent ou chantent. Leur batteur commence à se mettre dans le bain, retire son maillot de basket et tente comme il peut de rattraper les pains des deux chanteurs. Le public a beau connaître les paroles par cœur, ça sonne creux, comme si les guitaristes avaient oublié d’actionner une pédale. On patiente, mais même sur ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’, ça joue pas… Carl Barât se rattrape par un solo sur ‘Time for Heros’, mais se plante royalement a cappella sur ‘Fame and Fortune’ tandis que Peter Doherty, qui ne tient pas debout pour changer, manque de se prendre les pieds dans le fil du micro.

Les fans restent face à ce massacre, certains tentent de slamer sur ‘Music When the Lights Go Out’, mais personne ne suit Peter Doherty quand il fait signe au public de taper dans les mains sur ‘Begging’. Le show est lamentable, c’est un manque de respect total pour ceux qui persistent à attendre un miracle de leur part. Et c’est surtout déplorable de voir un tel gâchis de talent. C’était mieux au Zénith !

Shamir

Pour finir la soirée sur une note plus positive, on file vers la scène Pression Live pour jeter un œil au phénomène scénique : Shamir. Dans sa salopette, le chanteur à la voix de cartoon indique au public qu’il est temps de danser. Et instantanément, l’electro funk manipule les membres du public pour une chorégraphie inédite mais synchronisée. La foule se prend au jeu et reprend ‘Call it Off’ avec lui, mais le chanteur annonce déjà la fin du set. Les percussions au rythme contagieux permettent un beau final, mais on regrette d’avoir perdu autant de temps à attendre que The Libertines se réveillent.
