Troisième jour sous le soleil de Belfort. On a vu The Strypes, chanté avec Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, tapé un headbang avec JC Satàn, passé un moment nostalgique avec Dinosaur Jr, dansé sur Is Tropical. Ensuite on a fait du pédalo sur le lac, avant de repartir pour les Two Door Cinema Club, Fauve, et de finir la soirée avec Phoenix et A$AP Rocky.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Pour démarrer solidement une journée qui s’annonce chargée, rien de tel qu’un bon vieux rock. N’y allant pas par quatre chemins, le groupe commence par une reprise de The Call, pour rendre hommage au père de Robert Levon Been, décédé en 2010. Les morceaux restent langoureux mais nerveux, comme ‘Beat The Devil’s Tatoo’ qui génère des slams presque suppliants. Portés d’une main de maître par la batteuse Leah Shapiro, le sensuel ‘Berlin’ fait suite au fameux ‘Ain’t No Easy Way’.
Les Black Rebel Motorcycle Club auraient pu choisir convaincre la foule d’un agressif ‘Funny Games’ pour vendre leur nouvel album Specter at the Feast, mais ils préfèrent, sur ce court set, privilégier les singles comme ‘Conscience Killer’ ou ‘Spread Your Love’. En fin de compte, tout est dans l’attitude : personne ne bouge de son poste, mais Peter Hayes cale sa clope dans les cordes de sa guitare pour dire quelques mots touchants, puis Robert Levon Been descend prendre un bain de foule pour le final. De l’amour viril qu’on vous dit !

JC Satàn

Comme transition, on pouvait pas rêver mieux : JC Satan se lance dans un set très stoner… La violence en plus. Complètement dans son élément, le groupe italo-girondin entraîne la foule dans une belle communion de headbang. C’est effectivement à la vue de JC Satan qu’on comprend que le signe du démon est bien galvaudé de nos jours : Faraway Land a réellement été composé par des anges déchus ! La preuve réside dans le final destroy avec Paula qui assure le solo de guitare avec les dents, un inquiétant sourire toujours aux lèvres.

Is Tropical

On attendait le trio depuis quelques temps déjà, et le groupe a lui-même l’air impatient de faire écouter son nouvel album I’m Leaving. Mais la scène de la Plage en aura décidé autrement. Après quinze minutes de retard, les Britanniques arrivent passablement éméchés et se vante d’avoir appris une nouvelle expression française : « gueule de bois ». Ca promet. Le son part en vrille rapidement, mais pas comme on l’avait apprécié sur bande. Le chant est soit trop en avant, soit inaudible : on devine plus qu’on écoute les morceaux tant les enceintes crépitent et crachotent. Et on passe sur la performance de la copine du bassiste. Heureusement que le batteur était là pour sauver un peu ce qui restait du concert.

Two Door Cinema Club


Une des têtes d’affiches de la soirée, c’est les Two Door Cinema Club. Il y a trois ans, on leur pardonnait leurs maladresses de live, puisqu’ils étaient encore verts. Désormais, avec des tournées interminables à leur carnet de bal, on aimerait leur reprocher d’être trop carrés. Il y a de ça, mais la voix du chanteur ne tient toujours pas la route. Les gimmick sub-tropicaux sont rajoutés à toutes les sauces pour réhauser un deuxième album un peu fade, même si intéressant – seulement les détails ne sont pas mis en valeurs. De plus, les Irlandais ne savent toujours pas finir un morceau, à tel point que la foule, qui les adule, ne remarque pas le stop & go d’un de leurs tubes ‘I Can Talk’. Et il faut bien avouer que ‘Next Year’ sonne énormément comme du Keane. Ils avaient toutes les cartes en main, ils ont choisi leur voie apparemment.

C’est bien simple : il y avait beaucoup trop de monde pour la petite Loggia. La foule était tellement compacte qu’on ne pouvait pas faire un pas de plus. Et comme à chaque fois, l’enthousiasme prend le dessus : la clameur qui monte sur ‘Ste Anne‘, toujours au même moment, semble presque enregistrée. Quentin pousse sur sa voix pour se faire entendre au-delà des stands et bientôt le public se charge de l’aider sur ‘Hauts les Cœurs’. « On est vraiment nombreux » ose-t-il, ému, tout juste affirmer. Fauve joue leur nouveau morceau ‘Jennifer’, mais ne ressort pas sa excellente reprise de ‘Popular‘ de Nada Surf… Ce moment restera un souvenir privilégié de ceux qui ont assisté à leur date au Bataclan.
L’ambiance redescend doucement sur ‘Rub A Dub’, mais remonte immédiatement avec ‘Nuits Fauves’, que beaucoup chantent par cœur. Ils la font monter, la font durer, même si leur manque de confiance est encore décelable. Enfin, la foule applaudira ‘Kané’ à tout rompre, puis après ce moment partagé, tout le monde repart à sa totale indifférence de l’autre. Dommage.
