James Murphy en DJ set à la Gaîté Lyrique
La Gaité Lyrique a enfin ouvert. Un nouveau lieu dédié aux arts numériques. Bien placé entre les grands boulevards et les halles, les hipsters ne vont pas tarder à s’approprier le bâtiment. Mieux que les squatters artistes du CenQuatre qui font peur à l’opinion publique : on veut bien être bohèmes mais sans les chiens qui ont probablement pas fait leurs rappels de vaccination.
Pour les attirer ces hipsters bobo, la Gaité Lyrique avait programmé une semaine d’ouverture avec les plus fins DJ et les plus grands noms : Gilles Peterson en inauguration en mode coupette à la main, Tacteel, Pilooski, Mondkopf, et pour le dernier soir, le grand James Murphy, ex leader de LCD Soundsystem puisque le groupe annonce son dernier concert le 2 avril au Madison Square Garden.

Quand on arrive, le lieu est tellement beau et il y a tellement de twitters rassemblés qu’on se croirait presque à la soirée des inRocKs au théâtre du Châtelet. Sauf qu’il y a beaucoup moins de monde, et qu’on capte mal, ce qui limite le Live Tweet. Mais pour le bon déroulement de cette présentation, on va remettre la foule éparse sur le dos de la fin du weekend.
Aucune émotion ne parcourt la salle à la vue du patron de l’écurie musicale DFA. Après un bout de salsa, qui déstabilise l’audience et présage peu de l’ambiance, James Murphy commence à remonter les manches courtes de son éternel t-shirt blanc pour régler un problème de son. Il fait un peu penser à Mario Bros – d’ailleurs la Gaîté Lyrique propose justement de jouer à ce jeu sur des machines d’époque.
Malgré tout, le public est plus à l’écoute quand c’est Murphy que Russom qui mixe, il faut admettre qu’il en impose. Il se prend au jeu, prenant son rôle de mentor assez au sérieux pendant que Gavin Russom profite, relax, à observer la foule.
Mais entre un set de LCD Sounsystem et un DJ set de James Murphy, il y a fossé. Les montées prennent de l’ampleur mais dégonflent comme des soufflés. Et certes il aime à surprendre et oui il représente un discoglamrockpunk mais quand il vire au Studio 54, la foule -déjà pas bien enthousiaste- ne suit plus. On se retourne et on réalise que la salle s’est légèrement vidée : quelques rescapés du carnaval ont l’air décidé à faire la fête mais c’est pas la folie qui emporte le public.
On écoute, on hoche la tête, on est dans l’expectative. Peut-être si le public s’était pris au jeu lui aussi, l’ambiance aurait été plus à la fête. Peut-être si James avait été doublé d’un vrai DJ. Peut être si ça avait pas été un dimanche. Peut être si carnaval nous avait pas tous crevés… Avec des si…
Mais ne laissons pas une soirée ‘poudre aux yeux’ définir le sort d’un nouveau lieu dédie aux arts numériques. Si les hipsters sont déçus, les geeks vont trouver leur bonheur. Depuis le temps que le Musée du conservatoire national des arts et métiers cherche à pallier le manque au niveau numérique tout en gardant sa ligne scientifique et technique, il était temps que la Gaité Lyrique prenne la relève !
