MaMA 2018 – Faraj Suleiman, Warhola, Apollo Noir…
L’automne et son froid arrivent à peine sur Paris qu’il est déjà temps d’aller courir les rues de Pigalle pour découvrir les derniers groupes du moment au MaMA Festival. Premier volet bien servi pour l’équipe du Transistor avec la pop indé de Born Idiot, l’électro-pop des Belges Warhola, l’ethnic rock des Espagnols de Zulu Zulu, le rock acidulé de Thé Vanille, le piano jazz du Palestinien Faraj Suleiman et l’electro d’Apollo Noir.
Born Idiot
On commence par les très énergiques Born Idiot. Ces grands enfants ont mis une ambiance folle dans le Carmen alors qu’ils étaient l’un des premiers concerts de la soirée… Pari gagné !
Warhola
Décollage pour Backstage by the Mill pour voir le concert des Belges de Warhola. On s’est complètement laissé emporter par leur pop suave et rythmée – portée par deux batteurs. Tout habillé de blanc, le chanteur Oliver Symons avec sa très ample tenue ressemblait à une figure angélique. Et il faut admettre qu’avec cette ambiance rappelant les Backstreet Boys, nous n’avons pu réfréner notre envie de danser.
Zulu Zulu
Sur scène, le trio a beau être masqué, dans une ambiance tribale inquiétante, Zulu Zulu pue les bonnes vibes. Puis sans crier gare, voilà que les cuivres débarquent ! Quelque part on se sent aux avant-premières des Trans Musicales avec ce types de groupes extraordinaires sortis de nulle part. Ça part dans tous les sens pour subitement s’arrêter, et repartir sur des rythmes chaloupés grâce à leur batterie d’instruments. Bientôt la foule suit les mouvements des musiciens, et ça sautille, voire headbang. Soudain, un morceau aux choeurs entraînants rappelle étrangement – mais sans aucun doute – une chanson des Two Doors Cinema Club ! On est pas au bout de nos surprises !
Thé vanille
En route pour le concert de Thé Vanille au Carmen. Malheureusement nous n’étions pas les seuls, et la file d’attente ne se résorbait pas. C’est donc de l’extérieur que nous avons attrapé quelques notes… Leur succès est-il dû à leur classement en finale du prix Chorus des Hauts-de-Seine ? Affaire à suivre.
Faraj Suleiman
La file d’attente est là aussi conséquente, mais armés de patience, nous finissons par entrer dans la très belle salle du Phono museum. Donc ce pianiste palestinien donne dans le jazz, dans une ambiance très In Fine. Faraj Suleiman impose une belle rythmique à son piano – oserions-nous employer le terme de virtuose ? Des fois, on a l’impression que ses doigts vont trop vite pour sa pensée… Mais le plus intrigant c’est qu’il a la capacité à passer du coq à l’âne tout en restant dans le même thème : il peut tenir deux rythmes et deux thèmes en parallèle. Certains soufflent Avishai Cohen, d’autres soupirent Bachar Mar-Khalifé. Et d’un coup, son piano devient guitare flamenca.
Apollo Noir
Rendez-vous à la Boule Noire pour voir le set live du Français Apollo Noir qui sort son premier album A/N chez Tigersushis. Il a bien rendu hommage à son nom en nous emmenant dans un univers galactique à bord de son vaisseau-machine, mis en valeur par un jeu de lumière diffusé depuis son dos. En résumé, Apollo Noir a électrisé le public.
