The Amplifetes et FM Belfast

Chaque année, et depuis plus de dix ans maintenant, Rejkjavik est le théâtre d’un festival ébouriffant. Toute la scène scandinave se réunit aux Iceland Airwaves. Mais comme tout le monde ne peut pas se payer un aller-retour pour l’Islande, et que certains ont encore une dent contre un certain volcan, Le Transistor a trouvé un concert beaucoup plus pratique d’accès. Les Suédois de The Amplifetes et les Islandais de FM Belfast étaient à la Machine.

Ce quatuor de suédois pour le moins étonnant. De loin, le look du chanteur -barbu et costume de lin blanc type traversée-du-désert-d’Australie-à-la-rencontre-des-aborigènes- fait penser au cousin de Eels… Mais loin des chansons à textes, on se retrouve face à une electro-pop taillée pour les dancefloors d’Ibiza. Qui a dit que la musique indé se devait d’être sérieuse et porteuse de message ? De plus près, on remarque la cellophane pailletée sur les bras du batteur, et les mèches aluminium reflétant la lumière du guitariste. On flirte avec l’eurodance, mais la foule qui se laisse porter par les chansons tubesques n’a pas l’air de s’en soucier.
FM Belfast
Pour continuer dans l’ambiance je-m’en-foutiste, les FM Belfast donnent le la. Ils ouvrent le bal avec ‘I Can Feel Love’ et en un clin d’œil parviennent à faire s’accroupir toute la fosse pour pouvoir mieux sauter d’un élan commun. Tels des MacGyver de la musique, ils arrivent à faire des bombes à partir de bric et de broc : leur univers se résume à trois lampions de fête foraine défraichis, et c’est pas leur look bretelles couplé avec nœud pap qui leur sauvera la mise. Pour la batterie d’instruments, ils repasseront aussi : à l’aide d’une percu et demi et d’un mac, les FM Belfast retournent la Machine. L’effet en est presque flippant !
Le groupe tient la salle dans le creux de sa main : le public suit à la baguette les indications de chorégraphie. Les FM Belfast sautent dans tous les sens, comme des enfants qui font tourner leurs parents en bourrique pour ne pas aller au lit : l’ambiance est au défouloir, au régressif. Ils démontent tous les codes que l’on connaît, on frôle le n’importe quoi, mais il n’y a aucune arnaque : leur son est juste imparable.
Le final en lui-même résume bien l’esprit. Après leur tube ‘Underwear‘, pour lequel ils se retrouvent donc en slip et en nage, un des membres, que l’euphémisme nous poussera à qualifier « de petite taille », exécute un breakdance sous les ovations de la foule. Pour achever tout le monde, il invitent The Amplifetes à se joindre à eux pour joli bordel porté par le public qui reprend ‘Par Avion‘ – dont le refrain pourrait bien devenir un hymne de Love Parade- en chœur. Psychologiquement ou physiquement, on ne sort pas indemne d’un concert de FM Belfast.
