Depuis quelques années, le nom d’Inuït se propage, et le groupe nantais se fait de festivals en festivals, remarquer. Il semble que leur heure est arrivée, avec la signature chez Cinq7 et surtout la sortie de leur premier EP, Always Kevin. Le quintet donnait un concert en guise de release party au Badaboum, sous le regard embué d’émotion du groupe The Shoes, qui les a soutenus tout au long du chemin. Attirés par le single accrocheur ‘Dodo Mafutsi’, Le Transistor a répondu présent à l’invitation.

Inüit

Dans la foule, tout le monde les encourage, c’est clairement un public d’amis qui est venu ce soir fêter la récompense de plusieurs années d’efforts, puisque cet EP est attendu depuis deux ans déjà. A grands renforts de batteries, les Nantais arrivent à plonger tout le monde dans leur univers composé de toutes les influences folkloriques possibles, avec par moments, des touches de cuivres improbables.

Les musiciens, tous en noir, entourent la chanteuse, seul point coloré au milieu de cette scène. Chaque musicien est concentré sur sa partie, il lui incombe ainsi d’incarner les chansons de cet EP (et de l’album qui ne va plus tarder à paraître) Always Kevin – qui inspire de par son titre à rester jeune. On sent qu’elle a très envie de se mesurer à des performeuses comme Björk ou Olivia Merilahti de The Dø, mais la jeune chanteuse n’y est pas encore.

Au fur et à mesure du set, les compositions se font de moins en moins tribales et de plus en plus synthétiques. Dans la salle, les copains s’impatientent, et attendent que le concert décolle. Le tournant s’effectue sur ‘Circles’, et la chanteuse commence à se détendre pour pouvoir aborder ‘Hush’, le prochain single. Cependant, si les introductions sont travaillées et intéressantes, les morceaux n’arrivent pas à accrocher l’attention, comme si à trop essayer d’en faire, les Nantais perdaient l’attention du public.

Pourtant les musiciens donnent clairement l’impression de prendre leur pied. Et leur premier single ‘Dodo Mafutsi’ arrive à point nommé pour redonner un coup de fouet… ! Mais aussitôt on repart dans une ode au vent sur fond de jazz assez déroutante, et on se perd sur les terres (apparemment) népalaises, pour ensuite s’enfoncer dans une techno moite. Ce n’est plus un concert, c’est un dancefloor qui vire au patchwork !
