Pennywise au Trabendo
Les groupes de Punk-Rock ne font pas toujours un arrêt en France lors de leurs tournées européennes, la Belgique ou l’Allemagne présentant des publics plus accueillants. Entre le départ de Jim Lindberg, le chanteur, les reports de concerts et autres changements de salles, on a bien cru une fois de plus ne pas pouvoir voir Pennywise pour la tournée du neuvième album Reason to Believe.
A Wilhelm Scream & Strike Anywhere
Après la décevante performance d’Alkaline Trio mercredi dernier, j’avais la sombre impression que le Punk Rock connaissait ses derniers instants : un groupe insipide devant une salle désertée. En quelques instants, A Wilhelm Scream balaya tous mes doutes : sur scène le guitariste est monté sur ressors et le chanteur asperge le public de sa sueur. L’énergie déployée fait plaisir à voir.

Peut-être le problème du concert d’Alkaline Trio venait du fait que le public était en nombre trop restreint ? Strike Anywhere me prouve le contraire en lançant des slams avec une toute petite fosse devant lui. Je ne trouve donc pas d’excuses à Alkaline Trio pour nous avoir donné un aussi triste spectacle – le seul cliché du Punk-Rock qu’ils auront respecté aura été de chanter faux.

Un autre cliché veut que le public soit généralement composé d’adolescents en rébellion avec la société ou des skinhead violents – mais de fait, le Punk Rock prône la fraternité et si le poing se lève, c’est contre le système, pas contre son voisin. Partant de ce principe, la crise aurait du grossir les rangs des fans du genre; cela dit, les nouveaux convertis se tournent plus facilement vers des grosses têtes d’affiches comme GreenDay (qui a perdu sa crédibilité depuis son duo avec U2), Offspring (qui a perdu sa crédibilité depuis le clip de ‘Pretty Fly for a white guy’) ou Sum 41 (qui a perdu sa crédibilité depuis qu’il fait du sous-GreenDay – cf. Underclass Hero). De la même manière, Rock en Seine attire les foules avec la reformation du très reconnu Blink-182 (qui a perdu sa crédibilité depuis qu’il se prend au sérieux).
Cependant, comme l’affirme Zoli, le Punk-Rock représente plus qu’un style de musique, ‘it’s a way of life’. Pennywise est alors le groupe de Punk Rock par excellence. Il affiche tous les bons ingrédients : les paroles engagées – “Fuck authority / Silent majority / Raised by the system / Now it’s time to rise against them”, la cause soutenue lors des concerts – ici, c’est pour les dauphins, les requins et le thon rouge avec Sea Shepherd, le partage avec la communauté et les reprises de ballades classiques à leur sauce – ici, ‘Stand By Me’ de Ben E. King.

Un doute subsistait, Zoltan Teglas, chanteur de Ignite, allait-il être à la hauteur du charismatique Jim Lindberg ? Zoli donne de sa personne dans la performance puisqu’il apporte un peu de son passé avec une reprise des Misfits (pour lesquels il avait aussi remplacé le chanteur Michale Graves lors de leur tournée en 2000) et n’hésite pas non plus à embrasser les traditions du groupe en slamant la foule tout en continuant à chanter.
Si j’ai dansé pendant tout le concert, on m’avait prévenue : entendre ‘Bro Hymn’ repris par une foule à l’unisson, ça file des frissons…

Je les ai vu lors de leur passage au Groezrock en Belgique, et c’est vrai qu’ils étaient trop trop bien. Le chanteur d’Ignite a bien pris la relève même si ce n’est pas du Jim Lindberg, et plusieurs milliers de personnes qui reprennent Bro Hymn, ça fait frissonner !
C’est vrai que le concert au trabendo était assez exceptionnel, avec une scène si proche qu’on avait l’impression d’avoir les groupes mêlés à la foule.
