Pulled Apart by Horses à La Maroquinerie
Le Stand For Something tour du fameux Dr Martens faisait étape à La Maroquinerie, avant de partir pour faire la tournée des grandes capitales du nord de l’Europe. Au programme : trois groupes alliant grosse patate et accent british, Pulled Apart by Horses en tête. En première partie, Nat Jenkins and The Heart Caves et Dinosaur Pile-Up ont bien défendu leurs couleurs.
Nat Jenkins and The Heart Caves
Ca commence plutôt gentiment avec ces Anglais installés en France. Leur rock oscille entre ballades pop mélancoliques et envolées électriques sonnant garage. Nat Jenkins n’est pas un frontman aussi charismatique que Pete Doherty, mais son chant désabusé et les mélodies qu’il compose sont un peu dans la même veine : plutôt agréables, celles-ci font dodeliner les têtes, notamment sur ‘Home’ ou ‘Shut Down’. Mais le reste fait un peu redite et se fond trop facilement dans la masse des groupes du genre…
Dinosaur Pile-Up
Ca devient tout de suite plus nerveux et charismatique avec ce groupe de Leeds. Le leader Matt Bigland nous hurle sa rage dans une power-pop à tendance grunge et relents guitare-hero. Murs du son, solos de guitare métallique, caisse claire en avant, breaks vocaux atmosphériques nous rapprochent aussi de la scène punk-rock californienne, notamment sur des titres comme ‘Mona Lisa’ ou ‘Derail’. Sympa, techniquement bien foutu, mais on a un peu passé l’âge.
Pulled Apart by Horses
Leur nouvel album Blood est sorti ce mois-ci ; et le premier single ‘Hot Squash’ est l’amorce de concert évidente qui déchaîne direct les pogoteurs impatients. Une déflagration sonore propulsée par un chant haut-perché quasi hardcore sur fond de basse et guitare typés stoner, avec gros breaks martelés par un batteur impressionnant – ne serait-ce que physiquement !
Le ton est donné d’entrée, et les titres ultra-énergiques s’enchaînent. Les temps morts sont plus rares, comme sur le plus planant ‘Lizard Baby’ et ses “yeahyeahyeahyeah” lancinants, ou lorsque le frontman Tom Hudson plaisante avec le public entre les morceaux. Mais les distos bien grasses reprennent vite du service sur leur reprise des Stooges ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’.
Enfin, le puissant et jouissif ‘High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive’, véritable hymne post-grunge péchu, conclut un set haletant déroulé dans une ambiance détendue. Même les bourrins de slameurs étaient sympas et souriants.
Dommage que La Maroquinerie ne soit pas complètement remplie, surtout pour des Pulled Apart by Horses de haute volée. Mais au moins les pogoteurs ont eu un terrain de jeu idéal.
